Gone Fishing at Unique Vintage

Black Friday couldn’t have come at a worst time for my budget but I was able to snag a few deals here and there, including my Unique Vintage Catch of the Day purchases. I ordered a top and bottom since each was on sale for 30%. My total was less than $20.

It was like a surprise for myself because I had no idea what I was getting, just that it was in my size. I was hoping for a swing skirt and a top that would go with skirts I already had. Instead, I received a pencil skirt and a flowy top.

The skirt was just perfect. Not something I would normally buy myself, but the fit was nice and I love plaid, so it works perfectly in my wardrobe. I liked the way the spandex/rayon blend hugged my curves in the right spots.

I had a dilemma with the top. Was it a top? Was it a really short dress?

I wasn’t quite sure. But I was determined to make it work.

Thankfully, it paired well with my Lindy Bop Kendra capri trousers I had purchased for my California trip. I almost felt like my grandma with this outfit, but it really grew on me because of how comfy it was.

Honestly, I think the Catch of the Day is a great deal, especially with the 30% off. For someone who is not really sure what they want, but needs to expand their wardrobe anyway, it worked out for me.

Birthday, Pride, Dapper Day. Oh my!

Hurricane Matthew blew through Orlando early October right around when Orlando Pride was supposed to take place so it was moved to the weekend of my birthday. Also that weekend, Dapper Day. For the first time, the event was to take place in Epcot, where my husband and I used to work.

It was also my first time attending. I was always nervous about going because the caliber of fashion I had seen from previous Dapper Days in both Orlando and Anaheim. I never thought I would even match something as authentic or beautiful as the women I had seen.

I took a vacation day from work to spend my actual birthday, November 11, with my husband. We went to dinner at Better Than Sex, a romantic dessert restaurant with chocolate cocktails and mood lighting. My mom had gotten me this Addicted Coffin Bat Handbag offered by Dysfunctional Doll. It is now my favorite purse.

20161111_182442My dress was another Amazon purchase. A purple wiggle dress from a company named Newdow. The dress is actually made well, I bought a Vassarette lace slip to wear under it and it fit like a dream and hugged all my curves. My shoes, Dolce by Mojo Moxy, also came from Amazon. I found the 4″ heel to be far too high but I don’t wear heels often.

Pride being on the same day as Dapper Day gave me the idea to wear a Lindy Bop dress I had seen in the new arrival section. A space unicorn pattern with rainbows! I needed it but my size was sold out on the U.S. and the U.K. site was very pricey. I found Didi’s Boutique through a search online and ordered the Audrina Space Unicorn dress immediately. With international shipping, the dress cost me under $50.

Customs held the dress for a little over a week and the dress was set to arrive on the day I needed it! Marie, the shop owner, was remarkably helpful and checked up on me the whole time. Thankfully, it all worked out and I wore my Lindy Bop bright pink petticoat under the dress to really make the rainbows pop. Marie even threw in a pair of unicorn shoe clips from Atomic Mollie that I used as a makeshift brooch.

The dress did double duty at Pride. The parade folks pointed me out, I collected compliments all around the park, and I even enjoyed a wonderful conversation with a young girl in love with my dress and considering taking on the vintage look with a little Lolita flair. I told her “go for it, you might be nervous at first but in the end, be yourself”.

The California Trip

What a surprise we got this year when my husband was told he was being sent to cover Halloween Horror Nights in Hollywood, California for HHN Unofficial! I was beyond excited since I’ve never traveled that far west before and I had always dreamed of going to Hollywood.

psx_20160923_134038

It was perfect timing for my vintage journey. It gave me the chance to purchase and pack up for the first time for an event. This meant I had to make sure I had the right outfits planned, the right shoes, the right accessories.snapchat-8960388577540576486

I bought my first items from Lindy Bop. A pair of Kendra trousers to wear at the parks and throughout the day in order to remain comfortable in the changing temperatures. Also, a Lindy Bop Thea tea dress for the last day so I could be free of leg prisons (aka pants).

20160925_110100

We only spent 3 days there and we had a wonderful time. We walked and Ubered all around Los Angeles. We saw the Walk of Fame, Madame Tussaud’s Wax Museum, Grauman’s Chinese Theater, and of course, Universal Studios Hollywood.

I got alot of wear from the trousers and they are still my favorite comfy pants. I tend to wear alot of black and muted colors but with vintage, it always helps to have a little pop of color every once in a while.

Walking around Hollywood, I got alot of compliments on my hair (which was straight up until the heat hit) and my style in general. It was a great confidence boost. I didn’t visit mecca (PUG Boutique located in Burbank) because we were short on time due to my husband’s work, but there’s always next time! Read about our time at Universal Hollywood on HHN Unofficial here.

Praise the Impulse Gods

Since my entire closet is being revamped, I find myself buying impulsively in order to help speed along the process discarding items I don’t want. If I have something to replace it with, I don’t feel so bad giving it away.

20161011_183238

That’s where this Muxxn Swing dress in deer print comes in. I purchased it from Amazon for less than $20. I was really drawn to it because of the print and the matching bolero. I was obsessed with boleros.

20161011_184019I had a wonderful time trying this dress on. The fabric is a poly-mix that has a bit of stretch to it. I ordered a 2X due to the size chart, but I could have gotten it in XL because the waist is a bit loose.

20161011_182630

The main dress piece is sleeveless and has a ruched bodice piece that fits well over my bust. I loved it because I didn’t feel at all like I was showing too much. The bolero had buttons covered in a velvet material that made it look very professional.

Overall, I love this dress. I have absolutely no where to wear it as of yet, but I love how it feels and I can’t wait to find an excuse to put it on. I love deals and this was by far one of my favorites. For anyone considering buying vintage style dresses from Amazon, Muxxn seems to be a good choice.
